About Azul Barrientos
Azul Barrientos, a singer and musician, was born in Mexico City, a place known for its vibrant culture. Her journey led her to San Antonio, Texas, where she has worked relentlessly to connect the Mexican and Chicano cultures with the diverse fabric of the American society. Her musical career is a reflection of her deep passion for traditional Latin American music and its rich history. Azul reinvigorates traditional songs, preserving their timeless beauty for future generations and expressing her proud Latina identity. The music that Azul presents in her current concerts is a dynamic fusion of original compositions and time-honored melodies. This music is profoundly anchored in a deep respect for her cultural lineage, resonating with a profound reverence for Mother Nature. Her music is an homage to our planet’s beauty and an invitation to reflect on how we engage and honor her. Raised in a family of musicians, Azul was introduced to the folkloric tunes of Latin America from a tender age. This early exposure to music ignited her passion for reviving cultural traditions, using each song she performs as a bridge to connect people through unique histories and narratives. Azul has had the privilege of sharing the stage with international stars like Lila Downs, Eugenia León, and Susana Baca. In 2018, she performed for King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain during their visit to San Antonio, marking a significant milestone in her career.
