Thank you for joining the San Antonio Botanical Garden and supporting the mission of enriching lives through plants and nature!  As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Garden relies strongly on member support to successfully fulfill its mission. In a continual effort to provide an excellent member experience, the information below answers some of the most commonly asked questions about the Garden’s membership program.

May I apply my admission payment toward the price of a membership?

Yes. The Garden’s Guest Experience team can apply the purchase price of an admission ticket toward one membership purchase. The value applied from an admission ticket purchase can be no higher than the price of the membership. To receive this credit, please visit the admissions kiosk before you leave the Garden.

How do monthly subscriptions work?

Monthly membership subscriptions are an option available for dual-level and higher memberships. This requires payment by credit card, a minimum 12-month commitment, and opt-in to auto-renewal. Monthly membership subscriptions can be canceled ONLY AFTER COMPLETION of your 12-month commitment. To cancel your monthly membership subscription, please contact the Membership team by calling 210.536.1404.

How do I receive my digital card?

There’s a new digital membership card experience! New members will automatically receive their digital membership card(s) via email upon signup. The new digital cards were emailed to existing members. Read more about the new digital membership card experience.

Will I get a hard copy card?

I signed up for a membership today, can I visit the same day?

Memberships purchased the same day (online) are updated in our system immediately; you do not need to bring your printed email confirmation. If you did not download the digital membership card or opted out of receiving a digital membership card, our staff can easily look you up using a valid photo ID. Please allow up to 24 hours to download your digital card.

Will my digital card afford me reciprocal admission just like my hard copy card?

Yes! Your digital card bears the RAP (Reciprocal Admission Program) logo and is also accepted at a variety of other member Gardens. Reciprocal admission to over 345 other gardens and arboreta is free with San Antonio Botanical Garden Membership. For a list of reciprocal gardens, you can visit our page on your eMembership Card app and access this list anywhere, anytime.

Is a photo ID required for admission?

Yes, membership benefits are non-transferrable. Verification of a member’s identity also helps the Guest Experience team from accepting lost or stolen cards and prevents fraud and loss of revenue that accompanies misuse. This process protects the viability of the Garden’s educational programming and helps keep the cost of membership affordable.

Must I name a second adult on my membership?

Yes, the number of specified adults on the membership equals the number of adults who can utilize member benefits. 

May I change the adults listed on my membership?

For a membership naming two or three adult members, one name change per membership year is allowed. This change may be requested of the Guest Experience team or by calling the Membership team at 210.536.1404.

What happens if I lose my membership card?

A valid photo ID is required for the Guest Experience team to verify membership.

 

Our digital card option is available to all members. To help conserve paper waste, please consider using your digital card as a replacement card option if lost.

Are memberships refundable?

Memberships to the Garden are considered 501(c)(3) tax-deductible donations and are non-refundable. We thank you for your support of the Garden.

May I change my membership level mid-year?

Upgrades to membership may be made by a named adult member at the admissions kiosk, or by calling the Membership team at 210.536.1404. The member may choose to:

  • Upgrade a membership to a higher level by paying the cost difference between the two membership values (expiration date remains the same) OR
  • Upgrade the membership to a higher level for a full year by paying full annual dues for the higher level (new expiration date will be one year after purchase).
Who is eligible for a military discount?

Military discounts apply to memberships purchased by and for the eligible military personnel. Active, retired, and reserve personnel wishing to receive the 10% military discount must present a valid military ID at the time of purchase. These discounts apply only to memberships purchased for the military personnel member.

Can my child visit unaccompanied by an adult?
  • All children 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Members’ children and/or grandchildren up to 18 years of age enjoy free admission to the Garden (limit 10 per household).
  • Children ages 14-18 may use their parent/legal guardian’s membership card if they are named on the membership account.
  • To add your children and/or grandchildren to your Membership account, please call 210.536.1404 or let the kiosk know on your next visit. Please note that processing may take up to 5 business days.
  • Unaccompanied member children ages 14-18 will need to present their household’s membership card, identification card, or driver’s license to enter the Garden.
  • Unaccompanied non-member children ages 14-18 may pay admission to enter the Garden.

Complimentary Birthday Admission FAQ
Will I receive a ticket or pass to redeem my complimentary birthday admission?
No, there are no hard copy tickets or passes.
 
How do I redeem my complimentary birthday admission?
Just present a valid photo ID showing your birthday at the admissions kiosk.
 
When can I redeem my complimentary birthday admission?
You can redeem during the month of your birthday. For example, if your birthday is July 8, you have between July 1 and July 31 to redeem. Your complimentary birthday admission will not be eligible before or after the month of your birthday.
 
Can I use my complimentary birthday admission for a class, event, or program?
No, they are only valid for general Garden entry.
