San Antonio’s newest holiday tradition set to dazzle for a second year!

Over one million lights and festive displays return to San Antonio Botanical Garden for Lightscape. In its second year, the outdoor illuminated trail includes 7 stunning new installations in addition to well-loved favorites set to seasonal music along a 1-mile path that winds through the Garden.

Favorites like the Winter Cathedral will return alongside re-imagined installations, including Fire Garden and an even more spectacular display of Bluebonnets, an installation only seen in Texas.

In addition to the captivating light displays, guests will have an opportunity to enjoy festive food and drinks, including roasting s’mores.

This exciting event sold out multiple nights last year, so guests are encouraged to purchase their tickets early! Become a member to receive a discount on your online ticket purchases.

Parking

If you plan to drive to Lightscape, a parking reservation must be made in advance. Offsite parking with shuttle is free, limited onsite VIP parking is $30, and a limited number of first-come, first-served (no reservation) valet parking spaces are available onsite for $40.

Please do not park on surrounding neighborhood streets, this creates problems for Garden neighbors.

The offsite location is the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) Founders Hall Parking Lots & Garage.  Free and ADA accessible shuttles are available to and from the Garden throughout the event.  Shuttles will arrive every 10-15 minutes and the shuttle ride is approximately 8 minutes long. What is Lightscape?

 Guests will be enchanted by magical light displays set along a beautifully illuminated one-mile path winding through the Botanical Garden. These captivating illuminations will dazzle the senses and the show will proudly include installations unique to Texas created by local and international artists. 

The trail will feature a one-of-a-kind experience blending new works, including a field of Texas bluebonnets, with guest-favorites, such as the show stopping Winter Cathedral, an impressive towering cathedral arch tunnel sparkling with 100,000 lights. 

In addition to the captivating light displays, guests will have an opportunity to enjoy festive food and drinks, including roasting s’mores. Lightscape is a truly memorable, family-friendly walking event that is perfect for holidays entertainment and gatherings. 

What are the dates for Lightscape?

Peak Dates (tickets are available every 15 minutes – this is the time you arrive): November 11, 12, 13, 18, 20, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27; December 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31; January 6, 7, 8.   Off-Peak Dates (tickets are available every 15 minutes – this is the time you arrive): November 17, 21, 22, 30; December 1, 7, 8, 14, 15.  Not operating on: November 14, 15, 16, 28, 29; December 5, 6, 12, 13, 25; January 2, 3, 4, 5. 

What are the ticket prices?

Peak Dates, Pre-Sale: Adults: $28; Child (3-12) $18; Infants: 0-2 years: free 

Off Peak Dates, Pre-Sale: Adults: $26; Child (3-12): $16; Infants: 0-2 years: free 

Day of Purchases are $5 more per ticket

What are the ticket prices for VIP Experiences?

 VIP experiences include admission, VIP parking, and a dedicated VIP check-in lane. 

  • VIP Early Access: $55 (be the first to experience in the event each night; 15 minute timeslot) 
  •  VIP Anytime – Early Evening: $60 (arrive anytime between 5:30pm and 7:15pm) 
  • VIP Anytime – Late Evening: $60 (arrive anytime between 7:30pm and 9:00pm) 

What is the member discount?

 The member discount is $2 per ticket; no member discount on VIP parking or VIP Experiences. 

What is the $3 per ticket fee?

This convenience fee helps ensure the Botanical Garden’s commitment to efficient online ticketing and contributes directly to the Garden’s non-profit mission to transform lives through plants and nature. 

Where do I park?

If you plan to drive to the Garden, a parking reservation must be made in advance. Offsite parking is free, onsite parking is $30, and  limited number of first-come, first-served (no reservations) valet parking spaces are available for $40.

 

Parking on the neighboring streets adjacent to the Garden negatively affects neighbors, as residents have difficulty accessing their homes.  The Garden asks that you respect the neighbors and avoid parking on the surrounding neighborhood streets.

Is there a drop off area for rideshare?

Yes! Parking Lot A is the designated drop off and pickup area for Uber and Lyft. 

Who is Lightscape suitable for?

Lightscape is suitable for all ages - to be enjoyed by everyone. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. 

Do Botanical Garden members need to buy tickets?

Yes. Botanical Garden members must purchase tickets online and receive $2 off regular ticket prices. Only Botanical Garden members are eligible for this discount. Additional service fees apply. 

If I become a member am I eligible for the discount?

Yes, you can become a member online or by visiting the admissions kiosk during normal business hours. 

The date I want is sold out. Can I buy tickets at the door, day of?

The Botanical Garden does not guarantee ticket availability at the door (day of) due to limited capacity. You are strongly recommended to purchase your tickets online and in advance due to high demand. 

Does my Botanical Garden daytime admission or membership give me access to the Lightscape event?

No. Admission to Lightscape and the Botanical Garden are separate. Lightscape is a ticketed evening event with admissions starting at 5:30pm. If you visit the Botanical Garden during the day, regular Botanical Garden admission prices apply. If you have both regular admission and Lightscape tickets, you must exit the garden by 4:00pm and return to enter Lightscape at your designated timed entry. 

Should I arrive in advance of my ticketed time slot?

We strongly advise that you plan on arriving at the gate 15 minutes prior to your entry time. Please allow time to park, ride the shuttle if necessary, and check in. To provide you with the best experience, entry is granted based on the time designated on your ticket. 

Do I have to leave before the next entry group comes in?

Once you are admitted, you do not have a time limit to complete your visit. 

If I am delayed and miss my slot, can I join a later slot?

The Botanical Garden will try and accommodate you on the next available slot within Lightscape’s operational hours on the day. Please ensure you leave enough time to arrive on time if you are travelling a long way. 

What if I can’t use my ticket? Can I get a refund?

Choose your date carefully! Please make sure that you have chosen the correct date and time slot at the time of your booking. The Botanical Garden is unable to offer exchanges or refunds once Lightscape tickets have been purchased. 

Can I change the date of my tickets?

Prior to November 1st, and subject to availability, tickets can be changed for a $10 fee. 

How long is the walk?

The exhibition route is a little over a mile long. This is a self-guided walking event, there are no shuttles or tours. 

Is the path dark or covered?

In some areas the lighting will be low level as part of the experience. You are encouraged to bring along a flashlight in case of an emergency; this should not be used unless it is necessary. 

The path is not covered, and all guests are reminded that this is an outdoor illuminated event, and the weather may be inclement. Please wear appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear for winter. 

What are the last entry times?

The last time slot is 9:00pm and the event closes at 10:30 p.m. 

What time does Lightscape finish?

All guests must exit the Botanical Garden no later than 10:30 p.m. 

Can I take photographs?

Yes! Please use hashtag #sabotlightscape to share your experience. While waiting for that perfect shot please do not block pathways or the view of others. No tripods allowed. Photographs and videos are not to be used for commercial purposes. No night commercial photography is allowed during Lightscape, permits will not be given. 

Can I bring my drone?

Drones are not permitted. 

Are dogs allowed?

Pets are not allowed. Only ADA-designated service animals are permitted. 

Will Lightscape be open in inclement weather?

Lightscape is a rain or shine event. The Botanical Garden reserves the right to shut down or cancel the event if weather conditions are assessed to pose a risk to our guests’ safety. 

Is there ADA access at Lightscape?

Yes. The event is accessible for wheelchairs, mobility assistant devices, and strollers. Wheelchairs are not provided and cannot be rented on-site. 

Do you have accessible parking?

Yes, accessible parking spaces are available. 

Is the trail accessible for wheelchair users?

The illuminated path is approximately one mile in length. The exhibition route is a little over a mile long is designed so that it can be viewed solely from even paths.

Does it get cold?

We strongly recommend dressing warmly. The Botanical Garden may get cold during winter months. 

Can I purchase food and drink on-site?

Yes, a selection of food and drink will be available to purchase. 

Can I bring food and drinks?

No. Only food and drinks purchased on-site are permitted to be consumed during the illuminated trail. 

What shopping facilities are there?

The Garden Gift Shop will be open. 

What will happen if the weather is bad? Will Lightscape be cancelled?

Lightscape is an outdoor illuminated event. If the weather presents a hazard and a risk to safety, any decision to cancel will be taken by 2 p.m. on the day of the event. If Lightscape is cancelled, you will be notified by email and text message and you will be informed of the re-booking process. We advise you to check the website for the latest updates before you travel to the Botanical Garden. 

If I am unable to attend on a rescheduled day, can I get a refund?

If Lightscape is cancelled in line with the cancellation policy and ticket holders are not able to attend an alternative night offered, then a refund will be considered on a case-by-case basis. We can also offer a voucher for the following year. The transaction fee is not refundable under any circumstances.
