Healthy Trees and Certified Arborist Preparation Class

4 Fridays starting September 7th: Sept 7, Sept 14, Sept 21 (skip Sept 28) Oct 5th

This course was designed for the citizen who wants to stay safe while improving the health of trees and learn more about the value of trees and also prepare professional arborists for an ISA Certified Arborist examination. .

Course schedule:
•September 7: Tree Identification,Tree Biology, Installation and Establishment, Soil Science
•September 14: Water Management, Tree Nutrition and Fertilization,Tree Selection, Tree Support
•September 21: Plant Health Care, Diagnosis and Plant Disorders, Pruning and Oak Wilt,Tree Assessment and Risk Management
•October 5: Trees and Construction, Urban Forestry, Tree Worker Safety, Climbing and Working in Trees
Fee: $300 includes all four classes as well as the Arborist Certification Study Guide (a $115 value)
Course offered in Partnership with the San Antonio Arborist Association and Alamo Forest Partnership.

The Beauty and Benefits of Butterflies: Planting for Monarchs, Swallowtails, Fritillaries and More!

Looking to attract butterflies to your garden? In this class you will learn the importance of a healthy habitat for butterflies and other pollinators in your garden. Learn how the use of native plants for butterflies helps reduce the use of water and pesticides. Through a first-hand look, you will learn to how to plan and plant your garden. And, you will learn which host plants to make available for different species of butterflies. In Partnership with SAWS = 1 SAWS rewards point.
Instructor: Drake White, Owner of Nectar Bar, a Certified Texas Master Naturalist, and project Manager of the Butterfly Learning Center at Phil Hardberger Park.

Bird Walk

Bird Walks are scheduled every third Saturday, except during the summer months.
Meet at 9:00 am in the Greenwood Breezeway for a walk that starts at 9:15 am with a birding docent. Thanks to a generous donation from our friends at San Antonio Water System, walk is free to members or with paid admission, but registration is required.
