Accessibility Services

Shuttle Access Program

To align with our mission of enriching lives through plants and nature, the Garden has committed to increasing community access to our spaces through the new Shuttle Access Program launching in the Spring of 2024. This program aims to welcome visitors from across the city of San Antonio by removing distance and transportation as one of the most common barriers of inclusion.  

 The Shuttle Access Program prioritizes serving community partner groups in Bexar County and surrounding counties. This program not only offers free transportation to visitors from all communities, but also invites program participants to engage in a garden educational program with the options of:

  • Garden Tour 
  • Planting Program 
  • Garden Art Program 
  • Cooking Program 
  • A Class from our Programs Schedule

  • Pathways
  • Wheelchairs: Wheelchairs and mobility devices are encouraged in the Garden for those who need them. A limited number of wheelchairs is available at the Guest Services Kiosk and mobility scooters are also available for visitors to rent.

  • Scooter Rental: Mobility scooters are available for visitors to rent with a fee of $25.00 for a 4-hour period.
Service Animals

The Garden welcomes service animals consistent with American Disabilities Act (ADA) and Texas Law.

To fully ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all, the Botanical Garden asks for your help by adhering to the guest guidelines listed below. Those who do not comply may regretfully have their visit ended early.

Garden Etiquette

  • Outside food and drinks are not permitted. Refillable water bottles are welcome.
  • Leave plants for everyone to enjoy.
  • Stay on designated garden pathways.
  • Supervise any young guests with you.
  • Recycle! Receptacles for waste and recyclables are available throughout the Botanical Garden.
  • Blankets, lawn chairs, hats, sunscreens, and refillable water bottles are welcomed.
  • Guests are welcome to take photos and videos for personal use. Drone use is prohibited.
  • To ensure a safe and enjoyable visit for guests and to protect valuable plant collections, San Antonio Botanical Garden does not permit pets.* The Garden does allow service animals onto the premises, consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and TX Law. Service animals are defined by the ADA as “dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities.”

    *Pets may be permitted during special events. Check the calendar for more information.

Please refrain from:

  • Smoking or using tobacco (including vaping and e-cigarettes) indoors or outdoors within the Botanical Garden.
  • Collecting seeds, picking flowers and leaves, or harvesting fruit or produce from the gardens.
  • Bringing firearms, weapons, or portable players.
  • Riding bikes, scooters, and skateboards.
  • Climbing or engaging in activities such as frisbee, football, baseball, and kite-flying that could result in plants or other guests being accidentally trampled.
  • Photographing subjects in trees, on rocks, or on other structures.
  • Wading or swimming in fountains or ponds (but do visit the Botanical Garden’s designated splash area located in the Family Adventure Garden).

Dress Code

Shirts and shoes must always be worn. Young children only must wear swimsuits, swim diapers, or swim trunks in the Family Adventure Garden’s designated splash area. The Botanical Garden reserves the right to refuse admission to anyone who refuses to comply with this policy.

Guests with Disabilities

The Garden is readily accessible to guests of varying mobility; wheelchairs and mobility scooters are welcomed. The Garden has a limited number of wheelchairs available for guest use; mobility scooters are available for rent for $25 per 4-hour time period.
