Educators & Schools

The San Antonio Botanical Garden offers a variety of exciting learning adventures for students of all ages. All programs are TEKS-based, active, and age-appropriate, so you can feel confident as an educator in choosing a Botanical Garden experience to enrich your class curriculum.

We require at least 2 weeks advanced notice to schedule a group visit. Self-guided visits can be scheduled on any day of the week. CHEF Workshops and Terrarium Ecosystem Programs must be scheduled Monday – Friday during August – May, but program availability depends on current bookings.

Teacher Workshop: Fall Youth Gardens Educator Training

Saturday, September 24, 2022 | 7:50 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Join us this September for the Fall Youth Gardens Educator Training Class! This training is designed for teachers, educators, and volunteers in support of Youth Gardening in the classroom and community. Teacher Workshop: Project WILD

Project WILD invites you to explore and share the fascinating world of wildlife and ecosystems using fun, hands-on educational activities. You will experience engaging TEKS-aligned activities while networking with other educators. Workshop participants receive: 6 hours TEA-approved CPE and TEEAC Credit; Project WILD K-12 guide; Texas-specific resources. Designed for educators who work with children, including teachers, homeschoolers, informal educators, and scout leaders. Please bring a sack lunch. In partnership with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Terrarium Ecosystem Program - Pre-Recorded Distance Learning + Activity Kits

During this TEKS based program students will learn about the importance of plants in our daily lives and create their own terrarium ecosystem. An educational, original video series will be supplied that includes a “how-to” video for students to work alongside. An instructional guide will also be provided for educators. Teachers will be able to pick up supplies kits from the garden or have kits delivered to their school for $8 per student. This program is designed for grades PreK-8th.

During this TEKS based program students will learn about the importance of plants in our daily lives and create their own terrarium ecosystem. This program is designed for grades PreK-8th. Fee is $9 per child (3-17 years) and adults $11. This program is available beginning September 2021 and must be booked at least 2 weeks in advance.

CHEF Cooking Workshop - In Garden

During this TEKS based interactive program students will have the opportunity to prepare and enjoy 3 CHEF recipes. Participants will cook alongside our instructor and gain valuable culinary and nutrition knowledge in their own classroom. Cooking workshops are roughly sixty minutes long. Fee is $12 per child and $11 per adult. This program is designed for groups of 10-25 children grades Pre-K-12th.

CHEF Cooking Workshop - Live Distance Learning

During this live, interactive program students will have the opportunity to prepare 3 CHEF recipes. A Zoom link will be provided so that participants can cook alongside our instructor and gain valuable culinary and nutrition knowledge in their own classroom. Teachers have the option to receive a shopping list and set up instructions for $8 per child or to pick up ingredients kits from the Garden for $15 per child. Cooking workshops are roughly sixty minutes long. This program is designed for groups of 10-25 children grades Pre-K-12th.

Homeschool Day - In Garden

Why should traditional schools have all the fun? On the Botanical Garden’s Homeschool Days, children ages 6-12 are invited to explore the fascinating world of plants through guided tours and hands-on learning activities. Homeschool and virtual learners are welcome.

Self-Guided Visit

Another option for visiting school groups is a Self-Guided Visit. Guests are encouraged to tour the Botanical Garden’s 38 acres at their own pace. An online curriculum is available and educators with a booked reservation may preview the Botanical Garden ahead of their group’s visit to optimize the experience and familiarize themselves with areas they wish to explore. Your group must have 10 persons or more to receive the group visit rate. We require at least 2 weeks advanced notice to schedule a group visit. Fee is $5 per child (3-17 years), students (with ID) $10 and adults $11. Please review our COVID-19 safety guidelines here before visiting.

Financial Assistance

The San Antonio Botanical Garden would like to offer every student the opportunity to attend our programming. In pursuit of this goal, we are offering financial aid to schools and organizations in need. Scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, until designated funds are depleted. You will receive confirmation of your registration and notice of any amount due 5-7 business days after we receive your application. Scholarships are intended to be used with Garden programming during the months of September – February.

Guidelines for Groups

The Botanical Garden asks that you help keep your students safe and the Botanical Garden beautiful. Please download the COVID-19 Safety Guidelines and the Group Guidelines and share them with your staff and chaperones prior to visiting.

Scheduling a School Group Visit

We require at least 2 weeks advanced notice to schedule a group visit. Once you submit the form, you should receive a confirmation letter with more information within 5-7 business days (please check your spam folder). Receiving this letter means that the Botanical Garden has you officially scheduled for a program. Memberships do not apply to school groups.
