Artist Talk in the Garden: Kathy Sosa

Join us for a creative evening with an artist-led exploration of a contemporary mural in the Reflections of Nature exhibition! During this outdoor talk, guests will learn about the artist’s creative approach, installation process, and other works they have created. After the talk, participants will enjoy a hands-on poetry activity inspired by the artist’s piece. The evening begins with a beverage from the Garden’s Shop, before setting off on this immersive, art-meets-nature experience. Before the talk, feel free to enjoy the Garden for a fun, self-guided journey!

Artist Talk | 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.   

Activity: Revolutionary Women of Texas Watercolor | 7:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.  

This session features Kathy Sosa. An artist from the Texas borderlands, Kathy Sosa brings to life bold portraits that are inspired by Latinx culture, women, and the people she meets. She is internationally recognized for her paintings, which carry her own sense of style, color, and brushstroke, with a mix of modern and traditional techniques. Kathy often includes iconic cultural imagery, such as trees of life, huipiles, and butterfly wings to adorn the people she paints.

She is the author of Mestizaje: The Feminist Art of Kathy Sosa and the co-editor and illustrator of Revolutionary Women of Texas and Mexico: Portraits of Soldaderas, Saints, and Subversives. Kathy Sosa lives in San Antonio, Texas, and Querétaro, Mexico
