Lunch and Learn: Ecosystem Diversity Matters: Why Invasives are Harmful
November 22 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm
It is commonly understood that invasive species, whether floral or faunal, negatively affect the quantities and types of native species in ecosystems. What are less well understood are the broader consequences of such invasions. In this Lunch and Learn, Professor Kelly Lyons of Trinity University presents her research and thoughts on this subject. In particular, she elaborates upon the role of biodiversity in the provision of ecosystem services and the long term costs of diminished biodiversity. The audience is also invited to share their experiences dealing with the consequences of invasive plants and animals. Sponsored by San Antonio Water System.
Fee: $10 with lunch, $5 without lunch ($9/4.50 member)
Instructor: Dr. Kelly Lyons: Professor, Department of Biology, Trinity University; President, Society for Ecological Restoration, Texas Chapter
