From May to October, we’ll highlight the Garden’s winged friends, especially monarch butterflies and hummingbirds. These winged wonders find sustenance for their life cycle here at the Garden, sensitizing all of us to the importance of habitat for those who “co-habit” with us. The Botanical Garden plays a significant role as an Official Monarch Waystation. San Antonio is the only Monarch Butterfly Champion City, taking the National Wildlife Federation Pledge in 2015 to increase pollinator habitat.

June 2016-June 2017
Blue Star Contemporary and the San Antonio Botanical Garden are delighted to announce Alyson Shotz as the artist for their 2016-2017 Art in the Garden collaboration (opening June 30, 2016). For her yearlong exhibition at the Garden, Brooklyn-based artist Shotz has conceived a newly commissioned large-scale, freestanding steel sculpture, Scattering Screen. It features small mirrored circles that “reflect light and scatter the visible surroundings into thousands of tiny pieces,” per the artist. Sponsored by City of San Antonio Department for Culture and Creative Development, John L. Santikos Charitable Foundation Fund of the San Antonio Area Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, and Russell Hill Rogers Fund for the Arts.
Note: No touching, climbing, or professional photography and reproductions of the artwork permitted.
